After having read through the papers and listened to the podcast assigned, I find myself both
bewildered and hopeful. I am bewildered by the vast array of technologies being introduced
on what seems to be an hourly basis and I am excited by the possibilities of using technology
in the classroom. It seems to me to be a no-brainer.
I am fascinated by UDL and I'm very much interested in learning more about how it might
actually look in the classroom. Every teacher is confronted with the reality of different learning
styles in his or her classroom. That diversity may be mirrored by the approaches educators use to
address it. Some of us ignore it completely and some of us really try to reach every student.
I suspect most of us fall somewhere in the middle. UDL seems like a viable way to teach children
who might otherwise be labeled or even discarded but I wonder how many veteran teachers
would be willing to essentially re-learn how to teach. I am new to teaching and I have
encountered a lot of teachers who have their "routine" and they don't deviate from it.
Even when more effective or at least more interesting strategies become available to teach with.
I am very glad that I am studying the art of teaching at a time when truly being a life-long
learner is to my, and presumably my students best advantage.
