Cell Phones in the Classroom

I thought the podcast about using cell phones in the classroom was an extremely interesting idea. Allowing students to use a tool that they use all the time in a non-academic setting and giving it an academic purpose is exciting for students. Students are constantly being asked to use textbooks and worksheets in class and using a cell phone in class to do work is so different than their usual experience. This difference is engaging and exciting for kids.

I work in a special education middle school. I think giving kids an opportunity to use their cell phones to do some assignments could be beneficial to some of my students. Some of my students have trouble writing and using a cell phone would remove the writing aspect to the assignment. I think using a cell phone is also a useful tool in helping kids reflect on their work as they are able to listen to their recording after the fact.

I am excited to introduce this tool into my classroom.
