Google Lit Trips
I am very impressed by the Google Lit Trips technology, particularly because of the fact that it offers an array of resources for students from Kindergarten through higher education. I am also drawn to Google Lit Trip's ability to equalize the playing field for students who are unable to travel. Geography is often a difficult subject for children, especially when learning about unfamiliar places. Some of my students rarely even leave the Bronx, let alone New York City. Limited travel experience, often a factor of socio-economic status, can be a hindrance when having discussions with my students about the setting of a particular text. Google Lit Trips would also be a beneficial reading scaffold for students with special needs for whom visualization and inferencing can be especially challenging. This would be a wonderful differentiation and engagement tool for all students. I wonder if Google Lit Trips could be created for historic road trips, not particular to a piece of literature, to be utilized in the Social Studies classroom?
