The ability for students to use as many different medium as they can think of for digital storytelling allows them to access content in a variety of ways. For students who struggle with the traditional written form of expression, this kind of presentation values and encourages the use of a stronger sense (visual, musical, oral, etc) And for students who can express their thoughts through writing just fine, get an opportunity to experience the same content in a deeper way. For me, these students also benefit enormously from the options digital storytelling provides. There are so many students who perform adequately through written expression but only understand the material through a narrow lens. By encouraging them to use other medium, there are other parts of the content that get triggered, different connections, emotions, and memories.
This presentation also allows for a more natural set of connections for the students. I believe students learn better when they are allowed to follow their own path of connections and natural expression through the content. What I mean by learn better, is absorb more content because it is being associated with meaningful things for the student.
